Travel Theme: Flutter

Don’t be fooled by how secure I look in this picture; I’m actually standing over 100 feet above the ground on a small metal platform in a giant tree. To put it into perspective look at how far below me those other treetops are-that’s the rainforest canopy, and I’m about 20 feet above that. To say my heart was fluttering at this moment would be a bit of an understatement. I’m really proud of myself for this moment because I think this was the first time I conquered one of my biggest fears.

Winter’s Facade

It is amazing how much life can be found beneath winter’s barren front. As I walked through the forest today a chorus of songbirds and the gentle trickle of the melting river comforted me. Several woodpeckers knocked in the distance; I wish I had binoculars so I could have looked for them.

Winter has a solemn way of appearing still and silent when seen through a window, but doesn’t everything lose its vigour when viewed through glass? Once you finally venture outside, you discover how much life is bustling amidst the frozen world.

After spending five months there I noticed that even that was too much.
