7:57pm. I’m sitting on my bed with my rusty 1960’s fan blowing directly on me as the heat of the day finally dissipates. Maybe the heat was part of the reason I felt so uninspired today; it has a way of getting into my head and absorbing every thought like a fat hungry mutt eating every morsel until there’s nothing left.

Rain Daze

This house weeps when the rain sets in. Herย old frame groans arthritic pain in the chilly wet. She isn’t so good at keeping out the elements any more. The broken roof tiles let moisture seep through the walls. The wallpaper lifts at its seams and the paint hangs in delicate chips. I can feel her desire to give up-if only we’d let her. We keep her alive like a patient on life-support, relatives too stubborn to let her die; she’s a prisoner to her own body.

20 Goals for 2016

2016 is going to mean a big change in the goals I set for myself. Why? Well I just graduated university in June, and for the last 5 years that was really all I had time to work towards. Every goal I set for myself was in some way school related. Now I have been out of school for long enough to feel a bit disoriented by the lack of solid direction. It is freeing, but also intimidating.

I’ve spent the past few months trying to pave a path for myself. I’ve been lucky enough to do this in a way that most people never could, and I am grateful for that every day.

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
Christmas in Australia on a scorchin’ summers day!

Well it’s Christmas Eve here in Australia, although it certainly doesn’t feel like it. And I don’t think that it is simply because I am away from home and this is different from any Christmas I have ever experienced. There is no snow, no seasonal Starbucks drinks, no cinnamon or gingerbread scents wafting through the air. Surprisingly that is not what I find odd about this Christmas. Read More »
