Growth

As my coffee cools
it leaves behind a set of rings
that record each time I took a sip
and how big a sip it was.

Between each ring
the white space in the cup
remembers my gaze
through the frosty window.

Snowflakes
fall downβ€”and up
but some, just float
because they cannot

decide
which way to go.

Winter’s Facade

It is amazing how much life can be found beneath winter’s barren front. As I walked through the forest today a chorus of songbirds and the gentle trickle of the melting river comforted me. Several woodpeckers knocked in the distance; I wish I had binoculars so I could have looked for them.

Winter has a solemn way of appearing still and silent when seen through a window, but doesn’t everything lose its vigour when viewed through glass? Once you finally venture outside, you discover how much life is bustling amidst the frozen world.
